Walkaround sun

Video (1798kb)

I think this is the easiest sun trick to learn. It's easier to keep everything in line when doing this one, and it'll hopefully help you get the feel for the 'push' movement you need to make to get suns to go round.

To do it, walk clockwise around the shuffle, making sure that you keep the sticks in the same position over the diabolos. When you get back to where you started, there will be a twist in the string. A sun in front of both hands will undo that twist. Give the sticks a pull upwards and to the right so the diabolos both move over your hands. It's important that both of them go all the way over the top. If you get the movement right, the diabolos will land straight back in a shuffle.

There's another sun which is a similar difficulty level to this one. Instead of walking around the diabolos, you can do the sun part of the walkaround sun, but put the right handstick into your left hand as the diabolos go over the top, then take the stick back into your right hand as soon as you can. This is very similar but just a bit easier than a two diabolo suicide. Passing the stick round means you avoid putting a twist on the string.

As you learn other sun tricks, you'll see how important it is to understand the way suns put twists in the string. For the next two suns (the right hand sun and the left hand sun) the diabolos move between the hands, so the string doesn't get twisted. But for suns like this one and for the sun combos we'll go into later, you need to keep track of the number of twists you've put on the string.
